The World Electronic Sports Games, or WESG, is an electronic sports tournament of recent creation (2016). Because of its unique attributes, it is here to stay in the increasingly huge eSports scene. One of the attributes that sets it apart from others is the support of the Chinese group Alibaba.
It happens to be a Chinese billionaire e-commerce group. The Alisports division of Alibaba not only serves as a reference to the huge community of players in that country, but also it gives this tournament a prize pool of more than five million euros.

For reasons unknown, the National qualifiers of the South and North American region will now take place in January 2018. While, in February 2018, Santa Ana, California, will host the LAN Finals.
Twelve spots will be up for contention for the WESG finals, where eight regions will compete for the ultimate glory. In January 2018, the National Qualifiers of Canada and USA are set to take place. While smaller regions will start their campaign in December 2017.
From these two qualifiers, the top 12 teams will proceed to the American Finals. These Finals will take place in February in sunny Santa Ana, California. After the Finals of these qualifiers, only the top 7 teams will proceed to the WESG 2017-2018 Global Grand Finals.
Just like in 2016, the Global Grand Finals of the 2018 WESG will host an amazing prize pool of $1.5 million. However, teams will have to wait until March 2018 to get their hands on the prize money. Currently, China is the only qualified region of the WESG. The team coming forward is none other than EHOME.
The team is considered amongst the best DotA 2 teams in China and may very well take home the million-dollar prize.
While the teams following EHOME, Keen Gaming and Rock.Y, will have to take the long route to WESG. Subregions will compete alongside KEEN and Rock.Y for the elusive final spots of the WESG. Only time will tell what is the faith of these new Chinese sides.
The LAN finals of the CIS and European region are set to take place in less than two days. From November 22nd to 26th, Starladder will host the finals in Barcelona, Spain. Twenty teams will compete for the last 12 spots of the WESG Global Grand Finals.
In March 2018, these 12 teams will compete with the other 20 teams for the $1.5 Million Prize Pool. We also might have a chance to see females in the DotA 2 competition. In CS:GO and Hearthstone there are female only tournaments in March.
