Injuries, injuries, and more injuries! That was the harsh reality for many Daily Fantasy football players in Week 2. No position was hit harder than the already thin position of running back. Adrian Peterson, Danny Woodhead, Doug Martin, and Thomas Rawls all went down with injuries, some more serious than others. Woodhead tore his ACL and will be out for the season, while Adrian Peterson tore his Meniscus and looks like he will be missing a couple of weeks. Luckily for us the best part of Daily Fantasy football is that each week is its own entity. You are not stuck with Danny Woodhead or AP this week so lets dive into our Daily Fantasy football preview for week 3.
When you think of Buffalo and their head coach Rex Ryan, you think of defense, but that has not been the case this season so far. Buffalo has allowed 400 yards per game over the first 2 games and a matchup with the explosive Arizona Cardinals is not what the doctor ordered. Last week Buffalo gave up 100 yards and 3 touchdowns to Jets running back Matt Forte. This has to be a good sign for Arizona running back David Johnson this week. Buffalo also allowed 374 yards passing to Harvard’s own Ryan Fitzpatrick which can only mean good things for Carson Palmer and company on Sunday. The only good thing going for the Bills on Sunday is that they will have had 10 days to prepare and come up with a game plan to stop the high-octane Cardinals offense.
Players I like in this game:
The Bills defense is not as bad as they looked on Thursday but it doesn’t look like anyone can stop David Johnson since he came on late last year to be a fantasy monster. I like him to score at least 1 touchdown and have at least 130 total yards on Sunday.
Although I think there are cheaper options than Carson Palmer on Sunday that will compete with him points wise, I do like the matchup here and will definitely be using him some in Week 3.
The Pick: Arizona – 4.5
Is this the week Aaron Rodgers finally plays like the fantasy MVP he has been in the past? Over the last year Aaron Rodgers has not been living up to his hefty price tag. I believe this is the week he finally plays like the real Aaron Rodgers. Coming off a tough matchup with the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, I expect Rodgers to return home and be the number 1 Quarterback this week. It also helps that they are playing the lowly Lions. I would be shocked if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t throw for at least 3 touchdowns and over 300 yards. I will be stacking Rodgers, Jordy, and Cobb plenty this week and so should you.
Last season vs the Lions at home Rodgers threw the ball a season high 61 times. Hard to believe he won’t have at least 40 attempts this week. Give me Aaron Rodgers with 40+ attempt any day.
Although he hasn’t had his break out game yet, Jordy has scored in his first 2 games back this season. I expect him to reach the century mark and visit the end zone again.
Cobb had seven targets last week vs a tough matchup. I expect him to surpass that and with the lions defense he and Jordy should have over 100 yards each. Stacking Rodgers hasn’t been what it used to be but this is the week they return to glory.
The pick: Green Bay -7.5
In one of the biggest surprises of the early season the Tennessee Titans defense has played well, while the Oakland Raiders defense has been shockingly bad. The Raiders have allowed over 1,000 yards in TWO games. Drew Brees threw for 423 yards against Oakland while Matt Ryan threw for 393 last week. This definitely bodes well for young QB Marcus Mariota when the Raiders visit the Titans on Sunday. While I don’t expect the Raiders defense to continue to play this badly, I also don’t expect them to fix this problem in just seven days. I expect both teams to put up plenty of points which should make for a fun high scoring contest.
While he is not Drew Brees or even Matt Ryan, I expect Mariota to move the ball against a struggling Raiders defense. With a price tag of $1,800 less than Aaron Rodgers, I expect Mariota to be owned a lot this week.
Coming off a 20 point game in Week 2, I love Walker to continue his success with his young QB. The Raiders haven’t shown they can stop anyone, and I can see Walker repeating his stats from last week. Get him in your lineups!
The Titans stack this week should allow you to fill your lineups with other studs. After taking a step back in week 2 I expect the rookie to show off his skills against an under preforming Raiders defense. I don’t love Sharpe himself but you have to love the matchup.
The Raiders have thrown the ball an average of 40 times over the first two games. I expect them to reach those numbers this week yet again and for that reason I will be playing Derek Carr.
He definitely isn’t cheap but Amari Cooper is a STUD. Averaging 10 targets a game over the first two weeks only helps his cause. This means 1 out of about every 4 passes Carr throws is going to Cooper. Talent + Targets = fantasy monster. I am expecting Cooper to light it up this week and be a top 3 WR.
Can you hear that? This game just screams points. In the highest over under of all games on Sunday, this game figures to be a shoot out. The Colts defense is basically non existent, allowing 39 and 34 points in the first two weeks respectively. The Chargers’ offense definitely will take a hit after their all purpose running back Danny Woodhead tore his ACL last Sunday, but this is not the week for that.
Losing your number 1 receiver in Week 1, followed by your most trusted RB in week 2 is never a good thing. This definitely hurts Rivers’ value but a date with the Colts is the only reason why I like him. I expect him to throw the ball plenty on Sunday leading to solid fantasy points.
Slowly but surely, Travis Benjamin is trying to prove what he did last year wasn’t a fluke. Coming off a week where he put up 32.4 points, I expect Benjamin to continue to earn Rivers trust and put up plenty of points vs the Colts on Sunday.
After rushing for 102 yards on 24 caries in week 2 with Danny Woodhead playing, I am looking for Gordon to repeat his success in Week 3 with no Woodhead vs the pathetic Colts defense.
Andrew Luck has thrown the ball an average of 43.5 times over the first 2 weeks. Coming off a tough matchup on the road vs the Broncos last week, I expect Luck to be a top 5 QB this week. Due to sheer volume alone, Luck figures to be a points magnet no matter how bad the Colts offensive line is. Whether it is because they are down so much or due to the lack of a running game, I trust Luck this week to put up top 5 numbers.
With double digit targets in weeks 1 and 2, I expect this to stay the same this week vs the Chargers. Although Hilton hasn’t been scoring touchdowns, you have to expect that will change. Donte Moncrief is out 4-6 weeks, leaving Hilton as the true number 1 receiver in Indianapolis. With Luck throwing the ball seemingly every play, you have to have Hilton in your lineups this week.
The Pick: Colts -2.5
These are the top games I will be looking at when filling out my Daily Fantasy lineups this week. Below I will list other players I like as well in other games.
Ryan Tannehill vs Browns ($6,200)
Ben Roethlisberger @ Eagles ($7,300)
Todd Gurley ($7,100) @ Buccaneers Isaiah Crowell ($4,700) @ Dolphins
Jarvis Landry ($6,600) vs Browns
DeSean Jackson ($5,900) @ Giants
Dennis Pitta ($3,400) vs Jaguars
Jordan Cameron ($2,900) vs Browns
Bengals ($2,800) vs Broncos
Dolphins ($3,000) vs Browns
