Check out the 5 most improved NFL teams heading into the 2017 season.
The NFL has two seasons – one ends with the Super Bowl and then, the other one begins. It is the season of the Free Agency, the Draft, the trades, the deals, the investments, and the hard work of the off-season preparation. None of these is likely to instantly reshape a whole team but the decisions made during the “second” season, are crucial in the long term. In our next list we are focusing on the top 5 most improved NFL teams before entering the 2017 season.
We are starting our Top 5 Ranking with the reigning champion. Who thought the New England Patriots had room for improvement? Bill Belichick’s superstar formation is heading into the next Super Bowl stronger than ever.
The addition of Brandin Cooks will provide more deep pass opportunities to the genius of Tom Brady. Try adding Brandin Cooks to your fantasy football roster, as he brings the highest value on the WR position after Antonio Brown and Julio Jones.
The Pats also drafted young linemen in an attempt to bring New England’s line of scrimmage domination back. And what is more, Belichick’s scouts continue looking for talent everywhere, even outside the NFL and college football.
They are now negotiating with the YouTube trickshot kicker and Spring League participant Josh Gable.
The Cardinals didn’t hop on the QB-hype train and will once again rely on Carson Palmer to throw for them. This gave coach Bruce Arians the opportunity to pick what the team really needs and respectively earn a spot in our Top 5 Most Improved NFL Teams list.
They’ve told the media many times that in order to get a quarterback, they must really love to have one. Apparently the Cardinals didn’t love the 2017 QB class, but they surely loved the safeties. Haason Reddick from Temple was their pick in the first round – a hard-hitting safety expected to play in the A-team immediately.
To back him up, there are two other new safeties – Budda Baker from Washington and Johnathan Ford from Auburn. Both guys were drafted thanks to costly trades so they better deserve the efforts. Baker can fit in the DE position as well.
DFS experts predict Cardinals’ RB David Johnson to be among the best running backs in the 2017 season, if not the best.
To help him unleash his potential, the “Red Birds” got Dorian Johnson – a seriously well-blocking guard from Pittsburgh. Surely the Cardinals’ run in 2017 will be explosive and dangerous.
This year the Buccaneers drafted based on value. Each pick for the Tampa Bay team was a player who shouldn’t have been available by the time he was selected. O.J. Howard with the 19th pick? Come on! This guy is probably the best tight end from this class and experts bet their lives he is among the few guys who absolutely cannot become a draft bust.
While the other franchises battled for quarterbacks and made some ridiculous trades to get them, the Buccaneers picked the best from what was available, snatching up S Justin Evans from Texas A&M and WR Chris Godwin from Penn State.
The last one is maybe the most underrated wide receiver in this draft and you should keep an eye on him! Godwin, who was drafted with the 84th pick, ran the 40 for 4.42 and is a great example of a high value late selection.
The Jaguars put in a lot of work during the off-season and secured a place in our Top 5 Most Improved NFL Teams list right after the Free Agency. They hired a new coach, Doug Marrone, who shocked the football world after leaving his head coach position with the Buffalo Bills. There is still no accurate information of why he did that.
Rumors say he wasn’t happy with the criticism he faced from his managers each game, even after victories, so he used a window in his contract, paid $4 million and left.
Marrone was labeled a control freak by the media and even if it’s true, probably that’s exactly what the Jags need – toughness and discipline. The Jacksonville franchise changed their vice president as well, bringing back ex-coach Tom Coughlin.
As for the players, the Jaguars did an amazing job during Free Agency, acquiring Calais Campbell, Barry Church and A. J. Bouye. During the 2017 NFL Draft Jacksonville received one of the top running backs in this year’s class – LSU’s Leonard Fournette with the 4th pick.
The second round brought them the big guy Cam Robinson from Alabama, one of the best available Tackles. Other names worth mentioning are fan favorites LB Blair Brown, the addition of speed to the defense in CB Jalen Myrick, and the hard hitting FB Marquez Williams.
You can expect a lot of runs from the Jags in the 2017 Season. In case Ezekiel Elliott is taken, put Leonard Fournette in your fantasy roster and you will not regret it!
Not only did the Browns make a safe decision in the 2017 NFL Draft by picking number 1 overall Myles Garrett, they also acquired players like Jabrill Peppers, David Njoku, Larry Ogunjobi, and one of the top QB-s from this year’s class – DeShone Kizer.
The team from Cleveland added more than 10 new players and will look forward to putting an end to their poor performance of the last few years. Maybe not immediately, but in two years, the Browns could be a Playoff team, when and if DeShone Kizer proves himself as worthy of Cleveland’s trust.
That’s a well-deserved top spot in our Top 5 Most Improved NFL Teams ranking.
