Bowling in cricket is one of the most important aspects of the game. The bowlers have to propell the ball towards the wicket which is defended by a batter. Even though bowling the ball may look similar to the motion of simply throwing the baller, it is different from it.

Bowlers are only allowed to propel the ball only up to a certain angle of the extension of the elbow. There are two main types of bowlers in cricket: fast bowlers and spin bowlers. Fast bowlers are primarily relying on their pace to make the ball deviate in its course through the air. Spin bowlers, however, are propelling the ball fairly slowly, but attaching a lot of spin to it.

Jasprit Bumrah is a right-handed fast bowler. He is playing for the Indian cricket national team and competes in all formats of the game. Bumrah made his international debut against Australia on January 27th, 2016 against Australia. He made his T20 debut in the 2012-13 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and helped his team winning the title and became Man of the Match.

 

 

Bumrah’s playing style is considered by many to be fairly unorthodox. His ability to bowl yorkers at the perfect time and great performances in clutch-time made him a worldwide acclaimed bowler. He is currently ranked number one in the ODI rankings with a total of 764 points. Moreover, he is the fastest Indian bowler with an average speed of 142 km/h.

2. Trent Boult

Trent Alexander Boult is a left-arm fast-medium bowler and was born on 22 July 1989. He is representing New Zealand on the international stage and is playing for Northern Districts in domestic cricket. Boult is currently ranked second in the One Day International cricket rankings and made his ODI debut in December 2011.

 

 

He was New Zealand’s leading wicket-taker at the 2015 Cricket World Cup and made the transition to the Indian Premier League after the tournament. Boult joined the Sunrisers Hyderabad – the team purchased him for $600,000. Even though Boult is a fairly short player he makes up for it with his pace and ability to swing the ball both ways.

3. Mujeeb Zadran

Mujeeb Zadran is the youngest entry in our ranking of the world’s best bowlers. Zadran is an Afghan right-arm off-break bowler and the first international cricketer who was born in the 21st century. He made his international debut against Ireland in December 2017.

 

 

Soon after his debut, Zadran also played in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He was named the rising star of the squad by the ICC and he was also the joint-leading wicket-taker in that tournament. Mujeeb is playing for the Cumilla Warriors in the 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League and was also the youngest cricketer to play in the Indian Premier League after he made his debut on 8 April 2018.

4. Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada is a South African right-arm fast bowler and plays domestic cricket for the Highveld Lions. He entered the international stage in 2014 by representing South Africa in limited-overs cricket. Soon after he made his Test debut in November 2015. Rabada is considered to be the young cricket player in the world.

 

 

Rabada represented South Africa in the 2019 Cricket World Cup and was an important part of the team. In 2017, the Delhi Daredevils acquired him for the 2017 Indian Premier League and in 2018 he was purchased again, even though he had to sit out the season due to a back injury. Rabada is the youngest South African to take a ten-wicket haul in a Test and is constantly improving his skills.

Pat Cummins is a right-arm fast bowler and is the co-captain of the Australian cricket national team in all formats. He is a fast bowler and was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for 15.5 crores and became the most expensive overseas player in the Indian Premier League auction history.

 

 

The ICC named him Test Cricketer of the Year 2020, he also received the Allan Border Medal in 2019. Cummins played in the 2019 Ashes series against England and was the team’s leading wicket-taker. He was also part of Australia’s team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

6. Chris Woakes

Chris Woakes is a right-arm fast-medium bowler from England. He was born on 2 March 1989 and plays for Warwickshire and was part of England’s team that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Woakes made his debut in the 2006 season representing Warwickshire and picked up three wickets in his first game.

 

 

Chris Woakes played his first international match during the World Twenty20 in 2009. Moreover, in the 2020 Indian Premier League, he is going to represent the Delhi Capitals. The team purchased him for INR 1.5 and he will be part of a young and talented team.

Top 10 Highest-Ranked Bowlers – 7. Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir is a left-arm fast bowler from Pakistan. He made his first-class debut in November 2008 and played both, ODI and Test matches in 2009 in Sri Lanka at the age of 17. Amir was born in Changa Bangial and made his domestic debut for Rawalpindi Rams. He took 55 wickets in that match and therefore he also joined the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup team.

 

 

Amir was part of Pakistan’s team in the 2019 Cricket World Cup and took his first five-wicket haul in ODIs against Australia. Consequently, he was Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker of the tournament. The ICC suspended Amir on 2 September 2010 for spot-fixing. However, his five-year ban was considered lenient soon after.

8. Matt Henry

Matt Henry is a right-arm fast-medium bowler representing Canterbury on the domestic level. He is playing for the New Zealand national team and made his international debut against England on July 14th, 2019. The Kings XI Punjab bought him for the 2017 Indian Premier League and he was previously signed for Chennai Super Kings, but he has not played a single match for the team.

 

 

Even though Henry did not make it to the final squad for the 2015 Cricket World, he replaced Adam Milne in the semi-finals against South Africa. He was wicketless in the game but heavily improved his performance against Australia in the finals.

9. Lockie Ferguson

Lockie Ferguson is a right-arm fast bowler and represents the New Zealand national team. He was born on 13 June 1991 and made his T20 debut against Bangladesh on January 3rd, 2017. The Rising Pune Supergiants purchased him for the 2017 Indian Premier League and the Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him during the IPL auction so that he could play for them in 2019 IPL.

 

 

Ferguson played his first One Day International against Australia in November 2016. In his T20 debut against Bangladesh, he took two wickets with his first two deliveries. He became the first player in history to do so. Moreover, he was also the rising star of New Zealand’s 2019 Cricket World Cup team.

Top 10 Highest-Ranked Bowlers – 10. Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc concluded our ranking of the world’s 10 best bowlers. Starc is a left-arm fast bowler and represents New South Wales in domestic cricket. He began his professional career at the age of 19. In his first season, he made a half-century and took 21 wickets.

 

 

Following a series of injuries to several Australian bowlers, Starc made his international debut in 2010. He represented the national team while touring India in 2010 and played his first One Day International against India in October 2010. Starc was also part of Australia’s 2019 Cricket World Cup team. He became the quickest bowler in terms of the number of matches to take 150 wickets in One Day International in his 77th game.
