In Part 1 of our guide, we gave you some important tips for Protoss. Now StarCraft 2 Pro Strategy Part 2 is perfect for all Zerg fans.
Zerg are terrifying anthropoid beings that are very challenging to master. Playing Zerg requires patience and tactical diligence. Once attuned to the play styles of a Zerg, players can incorporate efficient strategies that can give them an edge in the game. Below are some useful tips to remember.
Usually, players decide to start with this trick, which is not very economically efficient. It starts off with players accessing their current supply caps, training their Drones, starting their Extractors and then cancelling them. It thus puts the players above the supply cap. Instead of starting with this trick, players are advised to get an Overlord at 9 supplies instead.
The Zerg Extractor Trick is only handy when the players are at 200/200 and require to peak faster as they are being rushed by an enemy. In that moment, players may not have enough time to start with an Overlord as they have to haste to make Zerglings. They could employ this trick to free up the supply of Zerglings and then subsequently cancel the extractor. This will be helpful as players will be able to access the Drones for defense.
Players are advised to use this only when they want to significantly surpass the supply cap. It is useful to note that players can actually get very large armies if they start by building 20 Evolution Chambers and 20 supplies worth of units. They should later cancel the buildings and make large units available. Whilst this trick is useful, its utility should be kept in mind beforehand.
Zerglings are a great tool to antagonize, surprise, and basically irritate the opponents. They are very inexpensive and only cost a handful of minerals. Zerg players naturally have a large resource of minerals and it would thus be ideal to spend some on these little pests. They can be excellent for patrolling the map, identifying those pesky Proxy Pylons and concealed, highly elusive tech structures and Ninja expansions. Zerglings can also be employed to rush undefended enemy bases and expansions. They can be pushed to these bases particularly when the opponent is distracted and they will cause severe damage to the enemy base, thereby planting the seeds of desolation in the heart of the opponent team’s core.
Zerglings will be lost regularly and in large amounts, but the cost is worth the reward.
Corruption is a significantly useful ability to employ as it can influence the upgrade process of opponent teams. When Scouting and using the Overseers, it is imperative that players utilize Corruption on important buildings and tech structures. It is a good idea to use this ability, specifically when players are in close proximity to these important landmarks.
Some of these important landmarks include the Engineering Bay and the Armory or Forge. These active upgrade centers will thus be corrupted and delay the upgrades of enemy teams. Automatically, the player’s team will be at an advantage when faced against their opponents.
Injecting the Larva manually can be a very cumbersome and time consuming task, but to remain competitive as Zerg, it is useful to regularly use the spawn Larvae ability. A useful way to curb this delay is by referring to the mini-map rather than actually manually clicking each Hatchery. Players can use the backspace button to cycle over the hatcheries and assign hotkeys to bring up their Queens. Tap and click in the center of the screen after backspacing to access a hatchery and then inject the larva.
Baneling is a suicide unit that is morphed from Zerglings and can be particularly useful on clumped up light units, clumped up Workers, Marines and Zerglings. A singular Baneling is available for 50 minerals and 25 vespene gas, after we take into consideration the cost of the initial Zergling. At a glance, 10 supplies of Banelings may not appear to be a large amount, but in actuality, this equates to at least 1000 minerals and 500 gas resources.
Players often build quite a few banelings, even though its utility remains low. It should not be used for structures, outside of hitting Bunkers, and for breaking down wall-ins. This is a highly ineffective strategy and should be avoided.
This concludes the list of tips for seasoned Protoss and Zerg players. StarCraft 2 is indeed one of the most competitive games due to its high complexity level and skill cap. Players need to attain in depth knowledge of the game and incorporate some of the mentioned strategies so that they can increase their chances of victories.
