Another Sunday, another day of sitting in the pub/on the sofa watching football. What better way to pass the time than having a few punts on the games?
We’ll make sure the ones you have are of value- let’s hope we get a few quid in the satchel as the season gets towards the business end. Sky Sports is your place to be- first up, at 13:30, it’s Newcastle v Arsenal before West Brom travels to Old Trafford for the 16:00 game.
Let’s have an in-depth look at the Gunners/Magpies game first.
How many games, do you reckon, have Arsenal won away this season in fifteen attempts? Not many people would guess three. They’ve lost to Stoke, Watford, Swansea, and Brighton on their travels in 2017/18. That is an abysmal record by anyone’s standards.
Loyal followers of this column- who are probably all living in solid gold houses by now- will recall us regularly advising betting against Arsenal when they’re on the road this term, and this week is no different. Arsenal have only the Europa League to play for this season, nothing else.
Their full first team played out a tough 2-2 draw in Moscow on Thursday night- are they really going to be up for their longest road trip in the Premier League on Sunday?
They’re up against a resurgent Newcastle side who have just racked up three consecutive Premier League wins. They’ve only lost two of their last twelve- against Liverpool and Man City. Arsenal are no longer in the same league as Liverpool and Man City.
Rafa Benitez has Newcastle brimming with confidence and they are a very tough side to beat on their own turf. Wenger would be forgiven for thinking more about how on earth he’s going to get past Atletico Madrid in the Europa League than this Sunday’s match.
Right then, what are we backing? Well, you can lay Arsenal at 2.3 (13/10) on Betfair. For those unfamiliar with exchange betting, that means you pick up if Arsenal fail to win.
Newcastle to win is 9/4 generally but we suggest backing them with Bet365. That’s because if Newcastle go 2-0 up, you get paid out automatically. Man City backers in the Manchester derby would’ve been loving this offer the other week!
If First Goalscorer is a market which floats your boat, there’s a bit of value lurking there. Nobody in the Magpies squad is exactly prolific- Dwight Gayle is their top scorer this season with just five goals.
In fact, Newcastle have had fifteen different scorers this season. The one we’re backing this week is Ayoze Perez- he scored one and set one up against Leicester in the last game, and opened the scoring in Newcastle’s last home game when they beat Huddersfield one-nil.
He’s the man in form and looks a decent bet to notch first at 9/1 with William Hill. Let’s hope he fills his boots- and fills ours in the process.
On to Old Trafford. Man United are 1/5 to win (general) and the big hitters will probably be on, but we’re not in the habit of getting stuck in to 1/5 pokes in Premier League football.
Alan Pardew used all his managerial experience to steer West Brom to rock bottom, following a run of eight defeats on the bounce.
The Baggies bounced him out of town a couple of weeks back, leaving Darren Moore in charge for last week’s respectable 1-1 draw at home to Swansea. The cold facts are these- there are fifty points separating United and West Brom– and West Brom are going down.
Man United are a million times better than West Brom and if they turn up, they could rack up a cricket score. If, like us, you expect United to teach the Baggies a footballing lesson (and don’t fancy smashing 1/5 on a Sunday afternoon), join us in perusing the handicap markets.
Man United -1 goal is 8/13 with Coral, Man United -2 goals is 17/10 with Betfair Sports. Both of these are worth backing as any result other than a routine home win is very hard to envisage. A 3-0 home win is 6/1 with Bet365 and Bet Victor- that seems fair enough if you’re a correct score backer.
Our final bet this weekend is again with Bet365- Lukaku to score first at 100/30. With United such strong favourites, that’s a tremendous bet. As ever, enjoy the games and here’s hoping our pockets are a bit fuller come 6pm Sunday than they were when we woke up!
The 83rd annual NFL Draft will commence in less than 2 weeks. AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, will host the event from April 26-28.
Liverpool and Real Madrid were both incredible in the first legs. However, we have some pretty good betting offers for you! Check our Champions League Quarterfinals Match Preview & Betting Prediction!
