It’s been a day since the release of the battle pass, and the $7,000,000 barrier has been breached by The International 2017 prize pool.
With a total sum of $20,000,000 in TI6, the eSports community saw the biggest prize pool in the history of any eSport in the world last year. The International 2017 is on its way and the prize money has grown a lot faster than the past year.
The prize pool for TI7 is set to break all the previous records. At the time of writing this article, the $7,000,000 threshold has been broken, and the credit goes to the dedicated DotA 2 community.
The prediction that a new record is all set to be established by the eSports industry can be made by the fact that when the Battle Pass for The International 6 was released in the past year, it took two days to reach the mark of $5,000,000. While the prize pool for The International 7 has broken this threshold in a one day only.
DotA 2’s prize pool tracker shows that this year’s Battle Pass sales are around half a million dollars ahead of last year’s at the same time.
Although this spike of numbers is quite early to be put in any judgment as the road for TI7 still has to take a lot of twists and turns. But it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that if the prize pool kept growing at this rate, then the final numbers would be huge. This year’s Battle pass has some of the amazing features for you to enjoy for long periods of time along with an understandable contribution to the prize pool.
This past weekend in the Qudos Bank Arena, FaZe Clan and SK Gaming entertained the CS:GO community in an exciting series at the final day of Intel Extreme Masters Sydney.
The side of SK Gaming summed up their strong performance throughout the tournament by taking the series 3-1 to lift not only the IEM Sydney crown, but also take home $100,000 as a prize.
The Train was the first map of the series and it was quite one-sided at the start. Attributing to a 3-kill streak by Marcelo “coldzera” David, SK gaming not only took an early map lead of 3-0, but also took the pistol round. In Round 4, FaZe got on the scoreboard with a win. But in the first half, this was one of the three rounds that the side managed to secure.
Although SK was on fire after the first half with a score of 12-3, it was the opposition that came out on top in the second half. To make the series interesting, FaZe had a score of 10-2 credited to some of the incredible plays by Finn “karrigan” Andersen. But SK won with a close score of 16-12 with some inspiration for their captain Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo in the last 2 rounds.
As compared to Game 1, in Game 2 FaZe had a great start on Cache. The side of FaZe got a 4-2 lead, and this time the player that greatly contributed in achieving it was Nikola “NiKo” Kovač who managed to get eight kills. But to bring things in favor of SK, FalleN took the matter into his own hands.
Once again he lead his side to establish a great run. Before the end of the first half, 10 straight games were won by SK and also the first game of the 2nd half. Afterward, SK got on track to finish up the 16-7 win and put itself just one win away from the championship.
Game 3 was quite possibly the game of the tournament on Inferno. FaZe got off to a flying start as they got an early 6-0 lead thanks to some incredible plays by NiKo. FaZe showed strong teamwork against some fascinating plays by SK and managed to take the first half with a score of 10-5.
But in the 2nd half, SK tied the score by taking 5 consecutive wins from the first 5 games of the half. And after great exhibition from both side, SK just bettered their opposition with a 13-12 score. But FaZe managed to tie the score at 13 all, thanks to a double kill by the last man standing of FaZe’s Håvard “rain” Nygaard. And to force Game 4 FaZe took the next 3 games to keep the dreams alive.
FaZe took an early 4-2 lead at the start of Game 4. While FaZe overcame a 9-6 lead at the half SK found its groove with a 10-2 showing in the half to lock up the 16-11 win.
As throughout the entire competition, SK gaming just dropped a single map. This incredible series win of 3-1 is the reflection of the side’s incredible performance throughout the tournament.
Despite having a roller-coaster to 2017, it can be easily stated that SK Gaming is now a force to be reckoned with and will continue to flourish in the upcoming tournaments.
