SK Gaming once again showed that the first place in the ranking of CS: GO teams belongs to them. Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo’s team defeated the formation of FaZe Clan in the grand finale of the ESL Pro League Season 6.
In the finals of the ESL Pro League Season 6 in Odense, Denmark, SK Gaming defeated FaZe Clan 3-1. SK Gaming won the grand prize of $225,000 with this championship. FaZe Clan took the second prize of $100,000.
It was a big surprise to see some of the amazing teams not living up to their potential. Ninjas in Pajamas and Astralis both couldn’t make it to the knockout stages. The IEM Oakland champion and the finalist of the BLAST Pro Series were a huge disappointment in the ESL.
FaZe Clan finished the group in first place by winning four games after defeating the struggling Fnatic. FaZe Clan defeated Liquid 16-14, Astralis 16-5, Luminosity 16-12, and HellRaisers 16-7.
In Group B, SK Gaming finished first with one loss and four wins. SK Gaming beat North, Misfits, NiP, and NRG. SK received one defeat from OpTİC with a score of 14-16.
The quarterfinals between OpTic and Fnatic were hard fought. However, it was eventually Fnatic who managed to win the 16-14 victory on the Mirage map. They then proceeded to the semifinals to meet the FaZe Clan.
In the second quarterfinals, things became quite intense between Hellraisers and Misfits, with overtime matches and very similar scores. However, Misfits dominated and won 16-6 on the Overpass map, kicking Hellraisers out of the competition. They went on to meet SK Gaming in the semifinal.
In the semifinals, FaZe beat Fnatic 2-0, with 16-7 and 16-10 on the Mirage and Overpass maps, respectivelty. SK Gaming completely dominated in its semi-final versus Misfits, winning 2-0 with a 16-6 win on Cobblestone, and 16-1 win on Overpass.
The Bo5 main finale started quite smoothly, with a lot of back and forth between two very strong teams. Although FaZe Clan performed well until the first half of the Overpass map, they couldn’t avoid the fall and were eventually beaten by SK. From Overpass, SK Gaming played a superb game with the combo of Marcelo “coldzera” David and FalleN. Overpass and Mirage were comprehensively dominated by SK.
Train, the last map of the series, had a big controversy and went into extra time. However, FaZe Clan failed to show composure on the final map. Thus, SK Gaming won the ESL Pro League Season 6 with a score of 3-1.
SK’s most valuable player was coldzera with his outstanding gameplay during the tournament, especially in the final series.
The division of the prize pool was as follow:
1st – SK Gaming – $225,000
2nd – FaZe Clan – $100,000
