Home I eSports I eSports Betting I Part 4 Single Bets and Multiple Bets in eSports
With the development of electronic sports and game industry in general, eSports are increasingly offered at the biggest sportsbooks. But as we said in our eSports Betting Strategy Guide 1, betting on the gaming matches or events is specific and quite difficult. Along with a solid understanding of the best odds, bookmakers’ margins, teams, and players, you need knowledge about the different type of bets. Now we will explain the difference between single bets and multiple bets in eSports.
Single bets are regular bets made on a single match, competition, or other event offered by the sportsbook’s eSport market. Type of the bet doesn’t matter, so the single bet can be money-line, handicap, a point spread, or even bet on totals. From the above, it becomes clear that the profit from a single bet is depending only on its type. For example, we take the match between Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams BPro Gaming and Pixel. Since the teams are even and the type of bet is money line, the sportsbook Betway offers almost equal odds for both of the opponents – 1.75 for BPro and 1.95 for Pixel. So if you bet $10 on BPro, you will win $17.50 or a total profit of $7.50. And respectively, a successful bet on Pixel will ensure you $9.50. So far, so good; nothing too complicated. But let’s take a look how things change if we use multiple bets.
Basically, multiple bets are a system of two or more regular bets, combined in one. To explain better how they work, we will use a simple example from Pinnacle sportsbook. So we have three matches for the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Minor Championship. We will bet on the favorites in two of the matches – Echo Fox and Cloud 9, and on the underdog in the third battle – Selfless Gaming. Instead of making single bets on every one of those matches, we will combine them and with the stake of $2, we will win $6.56. Usually, most of the matches have a minimal amount that needs to be bet, which most of the times is more than $1. If we want to make a single bet on the same matches, with the minimum stake on all of them, we need to bet $3.92 for a profit of $2.72, which is kind of irrelevant. Of course, in multiple bets, the type of the bet doesn’t matter. You can combine money-line bet with handicap and also bet on totals.
Calculating profit is quite easy. To do it you just need to multiply all of the chosen bets. If we use the same example as above, the odds are as follows – 2.610 for Selfless in Match #1, 1.488 for Echo Fox and 1.135 for Cloud9 in their battle. The result is 4,279, which is good enough to place your bet.
Of course you can use Single Bets and Multiple Bets in eSports betting. Matches and events are one of the hardest to predict. The competitive gaming scene is quite dynamic and underdogs can easily turn into a favorite in a really short time. So if you want to bet with multiple bets, you really need to be sure that your teams are 100% winners. Even if you do that, you still can lose your stake. We recommend combining more bets only if you decide to play on sure winners in order to maximize your profit. On the other side, if you want to make a risky bet on an underdog in the match, a group event is better to use than a single bet. Of course, it is all your personal decision.
