The first Derbi Madrileño will be played this Wednesday in Tallinn. Real Madrid will take on Atlético Madrid in Le Coq Arena in the battle for the 2018 UEFA Super Cup.
Today’s match is kicking off today 8pm (BST). The game will be played in the Le Coq Arena in Tallin, Estonia.
Real Madrid has won all of its past three pre-season matches and is looking really good already. Their offense is still very potent even though their main goal scorer has left the club. Nevertheless they still have plenty of great players in Isco, Marco Asensio, and Lucas Vázquez. It’s also not that bold of a prediction to assume that Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema will play bigger roles now.
Atlético, on the other hand, has had fairly mixed results during their pre-season campaign. They have won just one of their four matches and scored only four goals in their past five matches.
It’s the tenth international matchup between these two clubs and Real managed to beat Atlético two times in Champions League final matches.
Real’s Keylor Navas is expected to start in goal today, even though the team has acquired Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea. He has not trained enough with the squad to make his first start for the team. Real Madrid is not missing any key players and will go into the match with their first team.
Atlético’s Antoine Griezmann and Lucas Hernández returned to training last week but they are most likely to play in this game regardless. Thomas Lemar returned from his vacation early and is basically guaranteed to make it into the starting lineup. Atlético’s new striker, Nikola Kalinić, will probably take a seat on the bench for this game.
Real Madrid: Navas, Carvajal, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo, Casemiro, Kroos, Bale, Isco, Asensio, Benzema
Atlético Madrid: Oblak, Juanfran, Giménez, Godín, Filipe Luis, Lemar, Thomas, Saúl, Koke, Griezmann, Costa
The Madrid derbies tend to be rather low-scoring affairs. But it is really early in the season and both teams have not yet had a competitive match. That’s why we are mainly going to focus on the match result betting markets instead.
Real Madrid is favored by the bookmakers to win this game and we have to agree. Their team is extremely experienced and everybody knows what’s on the line in this game. Their new coach, Julen Lopetegui, is highly motivated to celebrate his first trophy in Madrid. Real have already won two Super Cups in a row and definitely want to make it three.
Atlético does not seem to be ready for the challenge just yet and won’t be able to keep up with Real today.
