Home I Latest News I NFL Post-Free Agency Power Ranking
Every year, in order to compensate the lack of football action on the field, the NFL off-season brings us months of curiosity and excitement. This is the time for NFL coaches and analysts to shine. The 2017 NFL Draft, in the end of April (27-29), will have the biggest impact on the shape of each team and may turn the power rankings upside down. Until then, let’s take a look at the top 10 teams after the moves made during the Free Agency period. Check out our list of 2017’s Top 10 NFL Post-Free Agency Power Rankings.
The Bucs are in a rising state. They gained a lot of momentum during the second part of the 2016 Regular season but it was not enough time for them to recover from the bad start and advance to the playoffs.
The team from Tampa Bay is absolutely capable of reaching the direct eliminations in 2017, especially now with DeSean Jackson on the offense. He is going to be a key player to fill the gaps in the Buccaneers’ passing game.
Jameis Winston was always good at throwing the ball but lacking deep pass options was a big setback. On defense the Bucs were doing fine and the new additions Chris Baker and J.J. Wilcox can only up their game.
That’s why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take the No. 10 spot in our NFL Power Ranking.
Despite the slight decline after the NFL Free Agency period, Green Bay still has Aaron Rodgers – one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
The Packers acquired Martellus Bennett but lost Micah Hyde, T.J. Lang, JC Tretter, and their running beast Eddie Lacy.
The Chiefs had just one thing to do during the NFL 2017 Free Agency and they got it done. They kept Eric Berry, signing him on a long-term deal.
Kansas fans lost the touchdown-lineman Dontari Poe, but if the team repeats its dominating performance during the regular games, we may see the Chiefs rock the playoffs.
Despite the offensive linemen performing below the desired skill level, the Giants improved their offense by adding Brandon Marshall. He and the superstar WR Odell Beckham Jr. will be giving hard times for enemy cornerbacks in season 2017.
The Raiders are still celebrating their relocation to Vegas by 2020. Manager Mark Davis promised the Oakland fans to bring them a Super Bowl title during the two remaining years. Even last season the Raiders could raise the trophy but Derek Carr’s injury didn’t let that happen.
During the 2017 Free Agency cycle the Raiders did very well acquiring players like Jared Cook, Cordarrelle Patterson and Marshawn Lynch who came out of retirement to replace Latavius Murray, lost to the Vikings.
The Seahawks’ defense, known as “The Legion of Boom”, is still considered one of the best defensive formations with its speed and explosiveness. It is said that defense wins championships but in order to win you have to score as well.
The Seahawks made a very big addition in the face of Eddie Lacy. Hopefully he will help them transform that disastrous offense we saw during Season 2016. Another addition to the team is the offensive lineman Luke Joeckel.
The Cowboys are still one of the main Super Bowl LII competitors, if their offensive unit in Dak Prescot, Ezekiel Elliott and probably the toughest linemen in the league remain healthy during the season. They just need to make a big addition on defense during the NFL 2017 Draft.
During the Free Agency period the Cowboys lost a lot of starters – Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr, Barry Church, Ronald Leary, and more. But for now, as Dak and “Zeke” are healthy and hungry for victories, the Cowboys remain at the top of our NFL 2017 Power Ranking list.
The Steelers were quiet on the Free Agency market, as they had to take care of their current squad. Le’Veon Bell was franchised and will once again be a key factor on the Steelers’ offense, as long as he stays away from injuries and bad behavior.
With the “three bees” – Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, who just signed a long-term contract, the Steelers are one of the most experienced teams in the NFL. Expect them to top the AFC once again, and maybe reach the big game this year – No.3 spot in our NFL Power Ranking.
The Super Bowl LI runner-up Atlanta Falcons take the No. 2 spot in our 2017 NFL Power Ranking. They signed the Kansas super lineman and regular season showman Dontari Poe. Additionally, the defensive line was strengthened by Jack Crawford.
If the Falcons continue their defensive reconstruction during the Draft as well, we are about to see them come back in the Super Bowl.
Not that you thought otherwise, but the Patriots top our 2017 NFL Power Ranking. The reason is both their current shape and the fact they rocked the Free Agency market, which caused a lot of hype.
After the Super Bowl LI title when everybody thought the Pats cannot get any better, Tom Brady received an experienced deep pass partner in Saints’ wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
Also, the Patriots are getting younger every year, signing talents for all positions across the field, which is probably one of the reasons they remained atop the Power Ranking for so long.
In addition, Bil Belichik signed the experienced Dwayne Allen, Kony Ealy and the former “Giant” Stephon Gilmore.
