March is here! And fans of NCAA Men’s Division 1 basketball know what that means…March Madness is upon us. Let’s take a look at the biggest basketball frenzy from the US.
The NCAA Tournament, aka March Madness, aka The Big Dance, is a single elimination contest between 68 of the best college basketball teams in the nation.
The North Carolina Tar Heels took home the trophy at last year’s tournament, besting Gonzaga 71-65. It was NC’s 6th National Title; it was the first time Gonzaga had reached the Final Four, let alone the Championship game, in school history.
UCLA has the most titles with 11, followed by Kentucky (8) and North Carolina (6).
This year’s Selection Sunday falls on March 11th, where the 68 teams are decided and subsequently divided into four regions. Thirty-two teams are automatically entered, based on their conference standings. The remaining teams are picked by a 10 man committee. This year’s event will be televised on TBS.
They really don’t call it Madness for nothing. Things kick off with a First Four round before the tourney starts that eliminates 4 teams. The first official round of the tournament consists of 64 teams playing in 32 games over the course of 2 days. The second round features the remaining 32 teams duking it out, again over 2 days. This leads to the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, the coveted Final Four, and finally the NCAA Division 1 Championship Game. There will be no shortage of men’s college basketball!!
Though the standings are still changing, it looks like the University of Virginia will be taking the No. 1 overall spot this year, putting them in the South bracket to face the No. 16 team in the first round. The Elite Eight is the furthest the Cavaliers have gotten, hitting that mark 6 times in school history.
Other teams to watch out for include big names like Villanova, Duke, Michigan State, and Kansas. These teams see getting to the Big Dance as an almost automatic occurrence. Of course, upsets and Cinderella stories are always a fixture at the tournament, so it really is anybody’s ball game.
With all this action, you know there will be plenty of betting markets for every bettor’s needs! Stay with us as the standings unfold and find max value for your NCAA Men’s Division 1 March Madness bets!
