Home I eSports I eSports I NA LCS – Against All Odds
If you have watched some of the NA LCS Summer Split, then you have noticed the games are now a bit weird. The bot lane has been taken by mages and somehow Irelia is the best mid laner. Even the top-level team of Cloud 9 has trouble adopting to the new Meta of Summoner’s Rift.
So, let’s have a look at the complicated Meta that sees the top teams struggling against tier 2 sides.
This is the first question that comes to the mind when we look at the games of the Summer NA LCS Split. The most logical explanation to why we are not seeing ADCs is the lack the proper damage. Most of the champions, including Tristana, Jinx, and Caitlyn, rely on getting damage by purchasing items. The damage based items have been nerfed in the 8.11 patch. After this rework, the ADC class was abandoned by the pros. So now we are seeing casters and mages picked over the forgotten marksmen class.
We all know that the developers at Riot change the Meta one way or another after every season. Riot now wanted mages to get the upper hand over the marksmen. So instead of changing each champion individually, the developer decided to nerf the important items.
Recently Meddler, who is the lead gameplay designer of League of Legends, has made an interesting statement. He said that these changes to the marksmen class are necessary for the upcoming 8.13 patch. So, we might see the very end of the marksmen class in the future.
At the moment, we are seeing some very unpredictable games. A strong team like Team Liquid is losing to Fly Quest with a 10,000-gold margin. This is all due to the teams failing to comprehend the Meta. Even the struggling team of Golden Guardians managed to beat 100 Thieves. Remember at the moment 100 Thieves are ranked in the first place.
In the LCK it seems like any team could make it to World’s. It is only a matter of time when the teams will adapt to this strange Meta introduced by Riot. However, one thing is for sure this year: we will have the most unpredictable Worlds. The past week, we saw the fall of domination of Korea to China at the Rift Rivals. The MSI also saw team RNG for China coming out all guns blazing. So, don’t be surprised if we see a new Chinese World Champion. Despite this series of upsets and strange results, we can surely expect an exciting competition ahead.
Will we see a new Meta introduced in the patch 8.13? Or another boost to the mage class of League of Legends? Only Riot Games can answer this in the future.
