Home I eSports I eSports I Meracle Joins All-Singaporean Team Resurgence
Last week we received big news from the competitive community of DotA 2. One of the veteran Chinese teams, iG Vitality, has parted ways with their carry, Galvin “Meracle” Kang Jian Wen. The young prodigy has announced that he is returning to Singapore. He will be now competing for Resurgence, one of the most recognized teams of the region.

The talented player Meracle is no longer competing for iG Vitality. He was part of the Chinese side for three months and didn’t manage to qualify for The International 2018. The 2017-2018 DotA Pro Circuit was an agonizing period for iG as the side failed to secure direct qualification. So they had to try their luck with a long shot through the open qualifiers. After acquiring the services of Meracle, the team started their qualification campaign on a strong foot. Keen Gaming, Team Serenity, and iG Vitality made their way to the Regional Qualifiers. However, in the group stage of the qualifiers, iG was eliminated. The team only won two games, finishing in 2nd place and finding themselves knocked out.
It was quite evident that a talented player like Meracle would be looking for a new team. Last week, Resurgence, one of the Singapore organizations, signed him on. Resurgence is among the big names in the gaming community of Singapore. The organization currently hosts nine teams in eight eSports titles. Now they have invested in DotA 2 by signing some of the best players in the region.
The role of team captain will be assigned to the talented Galvin “Meracle” Kang Jian Wen. He will continue to play the role of carry in his new team. This will be interesting to see since most of the renowned captains of DotA 2 play the support role. So, with a carry captain like Meracle, we might see a new trend coming to the competitive circuit of the 2018-2019 season.
Under Meracle’s captaincy, the side will surely be aiming to dominate the upcoming DotA Pro Circuit season. They might very well secure their ticket to the 2019 TI. Nicholas “xFreedom” Kelvin Ileto Lim will be taking the role of Head Coach of the Resurgence team. He is a legendary Singaporean player and will surely guide the team to success in their future endeavors.
Back in the TI2 period, xFreedom was part of a high-profile roster of Team Zenith. There, he played alongside some of the biggest names including Jonathan “Loda” Berg and Daryl Koh “iceiceice” Pei Xiang. The side finished in the top 6. Singapore really needs a team they can rely on. The last team to make a name for itself was Team Faceless. The team, ran by veteran iceiceice, initially dominated in the competitive scene. However, the side was unable to qualify for TI7 and soon disbanded.
So, we can hope that Resurgence will bring glory to its region by dominating some of the biggest competitive events.
Team Resurgence roster from position 1 to 5:

–Joel Chan “Chibix” Jian Yong
– Yao “Tudi” Wen Teo

– Paul “Barry” Tan Ke Da
