The Tencent League of Legends Pro League (LPL) is the premier League of Legends eSports league in China. The LPL features 12 teams split into two divisions of six teams each. Each team faces every other team inside their division twice over the course of the season. This is the same LPL that was victorious in the Rift Rivals held at the midpoint of the season.
The season is drawing to a close and so much action still awaits for you. Let’s take a look our LPL betting preview with matches that will keep you on the edge of your seat over the weekend.
LGD, the oldest club in China, has been in a devastated condition after ending S5 Worlds in the group stage. Things are getting a little bit better after Wei “We1less” Zhen rejoined in 2016, but then Jang “MaRin” Gyeong-Hwan decided to depart, and the sub mid laner had to transfer to top lane to fill the spot.
LGD is not performing well at the moment. They lack the potential to take objective across the map and show a lack of commitment in team fights. In the losses against JD and Newbee, LGD didn’t have a single map win, which shows their lack of consistency. The performance of the team has declined since the mid-point of the season. The team should be looking to get its hands on Lee Sin against OMG to stand a fighting chance.
LGD LoL is finding it hard to preserve their spot in the LPL and will have a mountain to climb against OMG.
OMG was formed in Jun 2012, and they dominated the LPL in S3. They were the runner ups in the Spring and Summer Splits, as well as two time Worlds quarterfinalists. Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao joined in S5 but the hype was soon dismissed. After several retirements in the team, they barely secured their spot in the LPL for 2017 with Han “SmLz” Jin and Liu “Five” Shi-Yu’s help.
OMG has recently pushed the self-destruct button. After being the top LPL team through the mid-point of the season, their performance has declined. OMG was once leading the league with a substantial lead, but are now struggling to keep its second place spot. The side is currently on a losing streak and will look to return to its winning ways against LGD. After the losing their spot to RNG, the team will be looking for redemption against the opposition.
Odds at Betsafe: LGD Gaming 3.60 – 1.25 OMG

RNG is the LPL counterpart team to Star Horn Royal Club. A number of their players played with either SHRC, Team King (following King’s promotion and SHRC’s relegation), or both. RNG has become the top team in the LPL since Uzi’s return. They will now form an all-Chinese roster for the new season following the departures of Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong and Jang “Looper” Hyeong-seok.
In the tier two LPL shuffle, Royal Never Give Up has pulled ahead once again. Their series against OMG demonstrated a glimpse of the lane-smashing powerhouse that made it to the spring finals. Royal Never Give Up hasn’t faltered since overcoming Team WE. Yes, Suning and Jing Dong aren’t the most threatening of teams. However, Royal Never Give Up’s thorough smashing of both dispelled the uncomfortable sensation left behind. Moreover, Suning beat them 2-1 earlier in the split. Therefore beating Suning last week is a site of improvement for RNG. Hard engage junglers such as Maokai suit Liu “Mlxg” Shiyu’s fondness of ganking. Meanwhile, Li “Xiaohu” Yuan Hao and Jian “Uzi” Zihao are looking like contenders for best in their roles in the LPL. It feels a lot like RNG and Newbee are the talent-stacked teams of the split, and their sudden rise is a welcomed one for playoffs.
Newbee was renamed after Newbee Club purchased QG. The team brought in Bae “Dade” Eo-Jin to make up for the loss of Uzi and Kim “Doinb” Tae Sang but got a disappointing result. They avoided relegation from the LPL and ensured a seed for 2017’s LPL subsequently. Newbee then brought in Shin “CoCo” Jin Yeong when Dade left the team in November.
Newbee has shown some resurgence in the past weeks. The side is currently on a two game winning streak and will be confident to make it three in a row. The departure of Uzi has brought some stability to the side. The recent results were much needed after the losing streak in the past month. So, Newbee will look to end the season on a high with a win.
Odds at 10bet: Newbee 2.80 – 1.39 RNG
