Home I eSports I eSports Betting I LCK – Champions Korea Betting Preview
League of Legends Champions Korea, commonly abbreviated as LCK, is the primary competition for League of Legends eSports in South Korea. Contested by 10 teams, the league runs two seasons per year and serves as a direct route to qualification for the annual League of Legends World Championship. The LCK is administered in cooperation between Riot Games, KeSPA, OGN, and SPOTV Games.
The league was formerly known as League of Legends Champions before undergoing a major restructuring in late 2014, which saw a change in the competition’s format and a rebranding of its current name. OGN reserved exclusive broadcasting rights of the league until 2016 when rights were split with SPOTV Games.
The LCK is widely considered to be the strongest League of Legends competition in the world. Only teams from this league have won the game’s World Championship since 2013.
SK Telecom T1 are the current champions and the most successful team in the competition’s history with six titles. Let’s take a look at some of the matches from arguably the best professional League of Legends League in the World.
The side of Ever8 Winners is new to the professional world of LCK. After defeating Kongdoo Monster in the LCK 2017 Summer Promotion tournament, the side made it to tier one. They competed in Challengers Korea for two years. In order to make a name for themselves in the LCK, the side should deliver 110% in every single game of the League.
Moving to week 5 of the LCK, Ever8 Winners are stuck in a limbo. They perform well in early to mid-game but choke at the end. The players of the team make too many positioning errors, the only player to deliver some acceptable performances is Park “Cepted” Wi-rim, but he can’t carry the entire team by himself. If the side wants to escape the relegation battle, they need to start picking up wins on the way.
bbq OLIVERS is a Korean team rebranded from ESC Ever. Although they have won the 2015 KeSPA Cup and IEM10 Cologne, they are generally considered as lower tier team in the region.
The team is finding it tough to win games against any team in the LCK. Their players get outclassed in every stage of the game and the overall team synergy is awful across the map. Moreover, they don’t look confident in team fights.
One player to show some spark is Kang “Tempt” Myung-gu, but on the chess board of Summoner’s Rift, one player won’t be enough to turn the tide for this lineup. They need to come up with a miracle and fast.
Both sides are dead last in standings of LCK, with each having one win from the eight games played. This matchup could change the fortunes of the winning side. The experience of bbq OLIVERS in LCK could be just enough to give them the much-needed series win against the opposition.
2-1 bbq OLIVERS
SKT T1 is the only team to have won the World Championship three times and is also the only team to hold an unofficial “Triple Crown”. In May of 2016, they became the reigning champions of IEM, the Mid-Season Invitational, and Worlds. In addition to the legendary Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, the SKT roster also features Han “Peanut” Wang-ho and Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon in replacement of Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong and Lee “Duke” Ho-Seong for the new season.
With great synergy between Sungu “Blank” Kang and Ui “Untara” Jin-Park, the side of SKT T1 is back to its winning ways. They are currently struggling to get Huni and Peanut to work, but Blank has stepped up his game. The side has had 19 consecutive victories since he started playing for them. This team is a mid-game powerhouse that can capitalize on the smallest of missteps and turn them into a confident victory.
MVP is a Korean professional gaming organization, forming MVP Blue, MVP White, and MVP Red in May 2012. Soon after, Samsung acquired it in 2013. MVP marked their return in 2015, and fought their way into LCK in 2016 Spring promotions, ending the summer season at 6th place.
Despite the fact that the side of MVP was winless last week, they have shown some signs of stability. As the weeks go by, An “Ian” Jun-hyeong is improving his skill set, Kang “ADD” Geon-mo is exhibiting some astonishing plays on Sion, and Jeong “Max” Jong-bin is back with his exceptional playmaking. Now if they could just capitalize on their synergy and structure themselves around their Jungler, Kim “Beyond” Kyu-suk, MVP could eventually become a decent team. But they still have a long way to go before they can do that.
It is without any doubt that SK T1 will sweep the opposition. Although MVP is a decent side and has been improving in the LCK, they are not in the same class as SKT1, who has the habit of winning no matter how strong or weak the opposition is.
2-0 SK TELECOM T1.
