The eSports organization, Beyond The Summit, announced a DotA 2 tournament among North and South American teams called King’s Cup: America. In the competition, there will be eight teams that will compete among themselves for a slot in The Summit 8 tournament. The prize money has not yet been reported.
The organizers first issued direct invites. Among the invited bands are Digital Chaos, Digital Chaos.SA, compLexity, VGJ.Storm, Infamous, and Team Leviathan. The last team that received the direct invitation, is The Dire. The final participant came from the open qualifiers, where Iceberg Esports had originally won. Team Phoenix stepped in as the final team, replacing Iceberg Esports after scheduling conflicts .

The Competition is set to be held in two stages. The group stage (September 6-18) will take place in a circular (each with each), best-of-two (two cards) format. There, the top four playoff participants will be determined. Moreover, the Semi-finals will be held in the format of best-of-three, and the finals in best-of-five.
The King’s Cup is a great opportunity for the teams to get themselves prepared for the first Minor of DotA 2. It brings new rosters of Infamous, DC.SA, and Vici Gaming J Storm.
The competition also features a new team, The Dire. The side is new to the competitive scene but has some very familiar faces. It brings together three players of Scandinavian origin, Per Anders Olsson “Pajkatt” Lille, Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg, and Rasmus “MiSeRy” Filipsen, as well as two North Americans, Peter “ppd” Dager, and Quinn “CC&C” Callahan. With several players commonly considered highly toxic, the lifespan of this lineup may be cut short in the event of failure. So you have more than one reason to watch King’s Cup.
Playoffs King’s Cup: America will be held from 19-20 September. The winner of the King’s Cup will receive a seat at The Summit 8.
Infamous was the first Peruvian team to represent the region of South America in The International 7. They did a lot better than some predicted. They survived the group stage and made it to the playoffs of the main event. The team was knocked out by the tournament favorites OG, finishing in the 13-16 position of The DotA 2 International.
This DotA 2 Peruvian team made history as the only South American team to reach The International. However, the side seemed to split due to certain differences among its members. Benjamín “Benjaz” Lanao Barrios, Enzo “Timado” Gianoli, Renato “Kingteka” Garcia, and Farith “Matthew” Puente all parted ways with the team.
The Peruvian team has announced its new lineup for DotA 2. Christian “Accel” Cruz is joined by Alonso “Kotarō Hayama” Lion and Mariano “papita” Caneda. The last two spots are secured by Leonardo “LeoStyle-” Sifuentes and Steven “StingeR” Vargas. Some new players, with the exeption of LeoStyle-, have already played for Infamous in the past season. Papita was the coach of the team from July to August, 2017. In the Kings Cup, they sit at 3rd place with 4 wins and 4 losses from the 8 games played.
They will be up against Digital Chaos, who had a less than amazing run in The International 7. The side remains unchanged after the roster shuffle. They will be looking to build on their winning start to the competition.
Digital Chaos- 2, Infamous- 0.
The Chinese organization Vici Gaming opened the fourth team for DotA 2 under the name VGJ.Storm. The team is based in North America and consists of local players. One of the founders of the team is the point guard of the Brooklyn Nets, Jeremy Lin. A year ago he founded his first e-sports team, the Chinese Team VGJ, and they secured victory in the SL i-League with a prize fund of $300,000.
The American team includes former players of Team Freedom: Jingjun “SneyKing” Wu, Stanley “StanKing” Yang, and Francis “FLee” Lee. They are joined by Eric “Ryoya” Dong (formerly 747) and Ravindu “Ritsu” Kodippili. The director of the team was Jack “KBBQ” Chen, a well-known translator and analyst of the Chinese scene. Lastly, the position of the coach was taken by kitrak. Under the new tag, the team made its debut at King’s Cup: America in a match against Leviathan, winning 2-0.
The side currently sits at 2nd place with 8 wins and 4 losses from the 12 games played. They are up against DC.
Digital Chaos is a team that is full of surprises, basically because there were fewer hopes for the American side. This potentially wobbly mix between rejected North American players and expatriate Asian hopefuls qualified for TI7. They were rather weak in Group B (the draw against LFY should not be misleading: the Chinese team had already secured its first place and played a very unconvincing Pudge). Their victory over iG.Vitality in the first round of the Lower Bracket was the surprise of the Main Event. However, in the next round, LGD did not give them any chance.
We really don’t know what the future holds for DC. However, one thing is for certain, it will be a great matchup between DC and VGJ. Storm.
Digital Chaos- 1, VGJ.Storm- 1.
