India vs England at Lord’s in 2002 is certainly of the greatest One Day International matches in the history of the game. English batsmen Marcus Trescothick and Nasser Hussain had huge days and scored more than two-thirds of England’s 325 runs. However, the Indian national team also had a fantastic day and had a great day with a decent team effort.

 

 

The team had evenly distributed three half-centuries in that game. Therefore, India kept chasing down the English lead and eventually won the match by a narrow margin of just two wickets and three remaining balls. It was one of the most remarkable comebacks in the history of the format.

India vs Sri Lanka, 1st ODI, Rajkot, 2009

One of the greatest cricket matches in recent history took place in 2009. Sri Lanka and India competed in one of the highest-scoring games ever with both sides scoring more than 400 runs each. Virender Sehwag hit 146 runs alone and the team had a combined 414 runs by the time they have completed their overs.

 

 

Sri Lanka on the other hand had Tillakaratne Dilshan on their team who scored 160 runs. Nevertheless, even though Sri Lanka had the best individual player this day, the Indian team scored an important victory in that remarkable One Day International in 2009.

India vs Pakistan, Austral-Asia Cup, 1986

Pakistan vs India is certainly one of the biggest rivalries in cricket. Therefore we couldn’t go for a ranking of the greatest cricket matches without a match from this epic rivalry. We chose the 1986 Austral-Asia Cup in which the Pakistani team fielded first. The Indian team performed really well in their innings and scored 245 runs. The team was 89 points ahead and just 10 overs were remaining.

 

 

Buth then Javed Miandad was next in line to bat for Pakistan. He went on a huge scoring run and turned the game around and made this game one of the greatest cricket matches of that epic rivalry.

England vs Australia, 2nd Test, Edgbaston, 2005

England vs Australia is another remarkable rivalry in the world of cricket. Both teams have been playing for decades against each other and there have been numerous epic games between these teams. However, we had to choose one of these games to make it onto our list of the greatest cricket matches in history. Therefore we decided to go for the 2nd Test match in 2005.

 

 

Australia has been dominating the Ashes series for the past years and has been winning most of the matches against England. However, things were about to change in 2005. Even though England was up to a bad start against the Australians, being down 239 runs, they went on to score 407 runs in their first innings for the first time since the 1940s.

Pakistan vs England, 1992 Cricket World Cup

The final of the 1992 ICC Cricket World Cup took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 25th, 1992. Both teams have already met in the league round and Pakistan was very fortunate to escape with a draw from that initial match.

 

 

In the final, however, Pakistan stepped up their game. The English team was heavily favored before the match, but they lost all-rounder Ian Botham for no score to Wasim Akram. It was the first World Cup title for Pakistan and it was also one of England’s largest upsets in recent history.

 

India vs Australia, 2nd Test, Kolkata, 2001

India vs Australia was an epic match for the Indian side. Australia defeated India in the first Test match of the series and that put them on a 16-win-streak. However, the 2nd match in Calcutta was a different story. India certainly was well aware of what was expecting them and they came well prepared. Australia was the world’s best team at that time though and India failed to score enough runs in their first batting innings which meant that they were forced to follow-on and it looked absolutely grim for the side.

 

 

Nevertheless, India did not give up and managed to overcome a 270 run deficit. The team came up high on day four of the match and was batting for the entire day which made up for one of the most remarkable comebacks in cricket history. India went on to win the match by 171 runs.
