Home I Sports Betting I Sports I Fight of the Century: Canelo vs GGG 2 Preview
Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez go head to head in an epic rematch tonight in Las Vegas.
Dubbed the Fight of the Century, these two athletes will go before a sold out T-Mobile Arena in a fight for the Middleweight World Title.
The pair met previously exactly a year ago, in the same arena, where a controversial split-draw was the outcome.
Now Golovkin is currently tied with Bernard Hopkins at 20 straight middleweight World Title defenses and he’s looking to break that record tonight. He’s a power fighter, earning 34 knockouts in 39 bouts.
Canelo, who has only lost to Floyd Mayweather, is looking to clear his name after failing two separate random urine tests in February. This fight was actually supposed to be held in May, but was postponed while Alvarez was serving his six month suspension.
Hailing from Kazakhstan, Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin, aka GGG, currently holds the unified WBA (Super), WBC, and IBO middleweight titles. He loves to win by knockout and holds the highest percentage of KO wins with 87.2% of his matches ending that way. GGG is currently unbeaten, with his only draw coming from the last match with Canelo.
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, of Guadalajara, Mexico, turned pro when he was just 15 and his record of 49 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws is clearly impressive. He also boasts 34 KO wins and has held held the WBA (Unified), WBC and Ring magazine light middleweight titles between 2011 and 2013; the WBO light middleweight title from 2016 to 2017; as well as the WBC, Ring and lineal middleweight titles between 2015 and 2018.
So who should you be backing in today’s fight?
We should expect a close bout, with plenty of action. Can GGG get it done this year? He’s pushing 37, but he is still the favorite with Ladbrokes going 15/8 about GGG to win by KO, TKO or DQ, and 11/5 he takes it by Decision or Technical Decision.
Meanwhile, Ladbrokes has the Mexican at 7/1 KO, TKO or DQ, and 2/1 Decision or Technical Decision.
Ladbrokes also has special prices on whether there will be a knockdown in rounds 7-12. It was 3/1, but you can get it now for 9/2.
According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Alvarez would earn an official purse of $5 million and Golovkin was to make a $4 million purse. It was reported with profits of the PPV, Alvarez would potentially earn around $40 million and Golovkin could earn $30 million.
