Almost two months have passed since the TI6, and during that period a lot of drama has unfolded, which includes bold decisions by the Chinese teams. The decision included disbanding the top team without an official claim as to why. In other news, Evil Geniuses’ Captain Clinton “Fear” Loomis shocked the eSports community when he retired from professional Dota 2.
Now that the dust settled down in mid-September, rosters are locked up. Some teams are looking stronger than ever and ready to fight for the remaining majors of the year and end the year of 2016 on a high note. The very latest competition is the MarsTV Dota2 League 2016 Autumn, which will be taking place in Xiamen, China, at the end of September. The event will host top-tier teams like OG and Secret, both of whom are looking to end the year on a high after showing disappointing campaigns of the TI6. The event will also include Evil Geniuses, who will be coming out guns blazing, even though they just lost their team captain due to retirement.
For the time being League of Legends has been all about the upcoming League of Legends Worlds Championships 2016. With the qualifiers settled earlier in September, the teams are looking to compete for the ultimate prize, The Summoner’s Trophy. The qualifiers were amazing to spectate. Without any major shocks, the best teams in the world qualified with ease. It looks to be the biggest-ever World’s Championship with other events taking place all over North America. The finals are set to take place in Los Angeles at the famous Staples Center.
The favorites of the tournament will be none other than the two-time winners SK Telecom T1. They finished first in the LCK spring playoffs and first in the 2016 midseason invitational. Also joining the strong teams will be the top-seeded European team, G2 eSports. The top seed of North America, Team SoloMid, has been in the LoL scene since 2011 is looking get the hold of the Summoner’s Trophy and who knows? This just might be the year for them.
This FPS game is taking the world by storm. Within months of its release, Overwatch has dethroned League of Legends as the most played game is the SEA region. Blizzard is looking to invest big in the title with its weekly updates and map modifications. Just a few days ago, big names like NVIDIA had decided to invest in the game and promote it in Asia by sponsoring tournaments. In the UK, Dino PC has also invested in the franchise. New ways of playing the title have been experimented with. As far as professional gaming goes, BlizzCon recently hosted The Overwatch World Cup which included national teams. The community is now stronger than ever in both the devotion and dedication to the game.
One of the Overwatch players managed to reach the level 1000 in the competition, paving the way for other players. With everything covered, one should keep in mind that this Blizzard title was available in May and since then, they have made it big not just on PC, but consoles as well. It looks like for the time being the game developers have got the reward for their hard work and, by the looks of things, they are not putting brakes on the progress anytime soon.
