We are back with another issue of our eSports Boulevard News! This time we will be discussing the matchmaking problems and changes in DotA 2 and the cs_summit.
In a matter of some days, the DotA 2 players will be unable to queue for the ranked MMR games except if their account is verified by a phone number.
The aim of the latest update to DotA 2 is to improve the matchmaking system and bring a quality experience back to the community of DotA 2. There are many changes made by Valve but the most important change is that players are now required to link their phone numbers to their official account to be eligible to play ranked games.
Multiple accounts cannot be linked to this particular phone. So the choice of smurf accounts will no longer be valid for the DotA 2 community.
A period of 14 days (2 weeks) has been given by Valve during which players can link their accounts. After the 4th of May, accounts without the verified phone numbers will not be eligible to queue for ranked matches. The phone number you want to be linked to your account can be changed anytime, but after replacing the number once, you can’t change it again for three months.
If you want to search for solo games and don’t want to be paired up with people playing in a party – your wish has been granted. You can now play the game as a lone wolf.
Party MMR has also been on the receiving end of the changes and the algorithm of party matchmaking has been modified. If a player’s solo MMR is considerably higher than the one he has for the party, the game will “search for a match as if their MMR were halfway between the Solo and Party MMR values.”
Valve has also triggered higher punishments for the players in Low Priority. Apart from the number of wins needed to escape the Low Priority abyss, the players will now also be unable to play ranked games for a definite time period. The threshold of the ban can last from a few hours to a four day period, depending on how much the player gets into Low Priority.
In the initial announcement made by the company, Valve has modified the methods of detecting “clear cases of intentional feeding, and will be applying stricter punishments to those who violate this rule.” And this behavior might as well be punished with a permanent ban for the offenders.
The second part of our this week’s eSports Boulevard News is all about CS:GO. We will take a look back at the cs_summit where a certain team absolutely dominated the field.
After defeating Gambit Gaming 3-1 in the Grand Finals of the cs_summit, SK Gaming is the reigning king of the Summit House throne. The score line was 10-16 Inferno, 16-2 Cache, 16-13 Train.
It should be pointed out that being a team to come in the Final through the upper bracket, SK Gaming would get credit for map win as the side of SK Gaming was up 1-0.
The first pick of the map was given to Gambit, and they chose de_Inferno without any hesitation as the side has 67%-win rate on the map. Being on the Terrorist side, the Eastern Europeans rushed out to a 5-0 start. But SK managed to mount 3 solid defenses at the B-Bomb.
By the detonation of the bomb, the next round went for Gambit. But SK exhibited a terrific comeback and showed class by the exhibition of triple-kill by Joao “felps” Vasconcellos’ which hindered the economy of Gambit. There was an even trade in the next two rounds, and at the Switch, the score was 8-7 in favor of SK Gaming.
On the side of Counter-Terrorists, Gambit started to find their rhythm in the second half. They managed to take the next three rounds and eventually the lead with inspiration from the triple-kill by Gambit’s very own Danylo ‘Zeus’ Teslenko.’
Of the last 11 rounds, SK only managed to win two and with a win of 16-10, Gambit tied the series of Grand Finals 1-1
De_Cache was the next map of the series, and it didn’t start up to the mark for the champions as they were down 3-0 on the Terrorist side. But the team get back on their feet with an ace from Marcelo “coldzera” David which lead to the side winning 11 out of 12 rounds, and a lead of 11-4 going into the switch.
Overall, the things went in favor for SK after the switch, as they overwhelmed Gambit 16-7.
De_Train was the map that sealed the series win for SK Gaming, which was the key map for the side throughout the competition. Multiple Gambit players were on the receiving end of the bullets of coldzera and Fernando “fer” Alvarenga. On three different occasions, SK mounted a solid fence to recapture the bomb sites and got an 8-0 lead at the start with 5 wins by team elimination.
After winning five rounds in a row, Gambit showed glimpses of brilliance after the switch on the Counter-Terrorist side, but SK was having none of it, winning seven of the next nine rounds for a 16-13 win and a cs-Summit Championship.
