The side of G2 eSports won the final of the DreamHack Malmö on Sunday night against North (2-0). It is the third title for this organization on Counter-Strike since the team’s creation last February, following victories in tours for another DreamHack and at the ESL Pro League in Dallas. The next event that counts towards the Grand Slam will be the ESL One New York in two weeks.
In the meantime, we will enjoy some top-notch online Counter-Strike in EPL with some key matches coming up.
Here is everything you need to know for the second week of Season 6!
After the first week of online play, three teams already find themselves in great position: FaZe Clan, Fnatic, and North. The latter two both stand at 5 wins, 1 loss, and FaZe leads the league with 6 wins and only 2 losses.
FaZe and Fnatic both disappointed in Malmö, however, getting knocked out of the tournament in group-stage play. North, on the other hand, performed well at their first LAN event with the new roster, finishing in second place. It seems Valdemar “valde” Bjørn Vangså brought back the hunger the Danes so dearly missed towards the end of last season.
At the bottom of the table, after a bad start to the sixth season of EPL are the Ninjas in Pyjamas with 1W-3L. It’s about time for them to pick it up and add some games to the win column.
The newcomers to the league, GODSENT and BIG, also had to endure some difficulties in the opening week. After all, it takes time to adjust to the high level of play in the EPL. Let’s take look at some of the matches that are coming your way next week.
Things are not looking good for the side of BIG. Recently they finished their ESG Mykonos campaign by getting knocked out in the group stages. Iin the ESG Pro League, the side sits at 11th place with 6 points. From the 6 matches played, they lost 4 and won only 2. The team brutally lost to Fnatic, but managed to take a game from FaZe Clan and Hellraisers.
Their opponents, Heroic, also competed in the ESG Mykonos, where they had a very disappointing run. They failed to win even a single game and were knocked out in the group stage. However, in the ESL Pro League, the side has redeemed itself. They are currently ranked at 5th place with 5 wins and 3 losses from 8 games played. The side had established a 3 game winning streak in the league by defeating the leaders Fnatic and GODSENT. They lost to Astralis and have a 2-0 win on their hands against Na’Vi as they go up against BIG.
Heroic is one of the two teams that qualified for the ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017. They are in Group D with Team Liquid, Astralis, and SK Gaming. However, first they have to beat the struggling side of BIG. Judging from their recent performances they may very well take the series.
Heroic should take it 2-0 over BIG.
From the 7 games played in the Pro League, GODSENT sits at 6th place with 4 wins and 3 losses. The side is tied at 12 points with the DreamHack Champions, G2 eSports. The side is yet to have a 2-0 series win in the competition, having tied every series in the tournament so far.
The lack of consistency is probably because of major changes in the roster. In 2016 and early 2017, the Swedes made an exchange: Dennis “dennis” Edman for Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson. With that, Lekr0 made the reverse path and returned to Fnatic 10 months after leaving the team. Dennis, in turn, closed his multi-season pass of almost two years by the FNC and now has the challenge of starting over at GODSENT.
Another change in the GODSENT lineup was the departure of renowned captain Markus “pronax” Wallsten, one of the founding members. Respected as the historic winner of three majors titles for Fnatic, “pronax” was never successful with the new team and was harshly criticized for his bad performances.
For the captain’s vacancy, GODSENT will use Jacob “pyth” Mourujärvi on a temporary basis. Since he didn’t manage to make a name for himself, Fredrik “freddieb” Buö has joined the GODSENT active lineup. So many changes made in so little time. However, the side is still lacking the much-needed chemistry to manage their first ESL Pro League Series win.
Team LDLC has only played a single series in the tournament against Fnatic. They lost 2-0 to their opposition, making them winless and dead last in the league table. The side lost the final qualifier of the ESG Mykonos to Team EnVyUS and since then, has failed to find decent results.
The side will be looking to improve on their recent performances. However, although GODSENT is not the best side in the league, they are no pushovers. Team LDLC will have a mountain to climb against their opposition. On the other side, GODSENT will be expecting their first series win in the league.
Team LDLC 1-1 GODSENT.
