eSports betting: ESL One Genting – Pick of the week
ESL is excited to unveil the first Dota 2 stop for ESL One in 2017: the ESL One Genting at the Resorts World Genting in Malaysia! The first ever Malaysian ESL One event will take place from January 6th to 8th in the prestigious Arena of Stars, which is part of the Genting Highlands Resort. It will feature eight of the world’s best Dota 2 teams as they compete for a US$250,000 prize pool.
The first day of the tournament will feature four best-of-three series in which eight teams will fight to claim the title. The predictions of day 1 matches are below.

The entire Dota 2 squad of Virtus.Pro was dropped by the organization on the 30th of June, 2016, after increasingly poor results culminated in a disappointing 6th place finish in the Qualifiers for The International 2016, thus failing to qualify for yet another event. Following the International, Virtus.Pro later revamped their Dota 2 squad and won The Summit 6 and had a respectable 5-8th place finish in the Boston Major. While Fnatic has problems of their own with only two players on the active roster, the year 2016 was a good one for the side. They finished 4th at The International 6 and 3rd at the StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 2. However, they have shown decline in performances since the post TI period. Fnatic will have a mountain to climb against the thriving and in-from side of Virtus.Pro-Dota2.
At the 2016 Manila Major, Team Newbee was undefeated for the entirety of China’s qualifiers and the group stages. The team ended the tournament in 3rd, having created a 21-0 streak. After the Major, the team earned a direct invite to The International 2016, where they finished 9th – 12th places. They also finished in 2nd at the MarsTV Dota 2 League 2016 Autumn and the China Top 2016, having been defeated by Evil Geniuses on both occasions.
The opponents of Team Newbee, Team NP, is a North American Dota 2 team formed after The International 2016. The organization is currently controlled by EternaLEnVy, who also serves as the team’s captain. The team began entering qualifiers for the multitude of premier tournaments leading up to the Boston Major. In its first qualifier phase, the Northern Arena BEAT Invitational, the team fell short against FDL. In the following three qualifiers, Team NP rebounded, and defeated compLexity Gaming in the grand finals of each. Although the team had a lackluster performance at The Summit 6 with a second-to-last finish, they were able to reach 3rd place at Elimination Mode 2.0. Above all, they will have a tough time against the former TI winners, Team Newbee.
The newly formed Digital Chaos did well in American qualifiers, but struggled at international events, finishing second-to-last in every premier event they attended. At The International 2016, however, the team surged, placing second in their group and making into the grand finals through the lower bracket to take a surprising second place. After that, the team finished The Summit 6 with a respectable 5-6th place and finished the Boston Major and China Top 2016 at 3- 4th place in both tournaments.
In 2016, Execration qualified for The International 2016 through the wildcard but failed to make it to the group stages. After the tournament, the team won the MPGL Southeast Asian Championship, beating MVP Phoenix 2-0 in the grand finals. A few days later the organization made one change with Rapy replacing BYB as their offlaner for the Fall Major 2016 due to BYB’s ineligible status from Valve, caused from a match fixing incident. Despite the team’s roster being changed, they were ultimately not able to participate due to visa issues and were replaced by LGD Gaming. In December, they finished 1st in the ASUS ROG SEA Cup. Analyzing the performances of both the teams, it seems like Execration will face a tough challenge against the side of Digital Chaos since they also lost their star player, Abed, a few days ago.
Wings Gaming is a Chinese professional Dota 2 team and champions of The International 2016. Best known for their aggressive play style, Wings Gaming is highly unpredictable. They also have an incredibly deep hero pool. For example, during The Summit 5 finals, Wings picked twenty different heroes in the four games they played (therefore never playing any hero more than once). Their team captain, y`, has commented, “DotA becomes very stable if we play the same heroes over and over again.”
WarriorsGaming.Unity is a professional Dota 2 team from Malaysia which finished the Boston Major on a high note with 5-8th place finish and ended the year in style with securing 1st place finish in SEA Kappa Invitational Season 3 and Kings Dota2 Cup. But now they will be facing the mighty Wings Gaming and thus, they will have a mountain to climb against the unpredictable reigning TI6 champions.
