We already covered the basic aspects of being a Dota 2 player. Now it is time for more complicated guides. In the first part of our Dota 2 Pro Strategy, we will concentrate on the mental part of the game. Moreover, in part two, we will give you more details about the game, along with useful tips on how to be a professional Dota 2 player.
We will start our Dota 2 Pro Strategy with some tips regarding your mental behavior.
You might start panicking when the enemy team is fat because your teammates, including those who have fed like hell, will end up thinking they should end the game fast and find another one. But when it comes to Dota 2 professionals, the reaction is very different. More often than not, they never panic. Once they see that plan A has failed, they move on to plan B, and if that fails as well, they move onto plan C, but they never quit.
If you are playing a Nature Prophet or Lycan, you can start ratting. However, this is not the first priority for many players. Have you ever heard of Henrik “AdmiralBulldog” Ahnberg? He is one of the best professional players in the world, and he is considered one of the founders of rat strategy. He has captained the team, Alliance, to many titles only because of successful implementation of this strategy. This will not only get you objectives but will create space on the map so that your teammates can farm. Therefore never panic and remember there is always another strategy.
Dota 2 Beginner Strategy
This sentence is very straightforward. Many players call Finish Fast, GGWP, etc., 15 min into the game because of some silly reasons which end not only in a loss, but also a waste of precious time.
The longest game in the history of Dota 2 was between SFZ and Cloud9. The game lasted for a record 3 hours and 33 minutes. In the end, even though they had mega creeps to take care of, SFZ won the game. If they had called GGWP when they had conceded mega creeps, they never would have emerged to win the game.
When you find a match, you are teamed up with players who match your skills and game stats. The same could be said about your opposition since they almost have the same level, same KDA ratio, and the same number of games won. Some of the time you are matched with a very different skill set of players. Sometimes because of compendium quests, even players of high levels play new heroes very stupidly and end up having an awful game.
So don’t start saying things like, “Noob Earthshaker. Thanks for blocking me with your fissure. GG WP noob.” etc. These things will never be of any benefit to your side and will only make things worse.
Because of the original play style, not everyone is meant to play the role of support or of carry in the game. Typically, if someone claims they are equally good as a carry and as a support, this means that they not only fooling you but are also fooling themselves and eventually everyone will suffer.
Play nukers or tanks if you have a very aggressive playing style to get those solo kills. Pick a 3 level hard carry if you want to farm all game. If you just don’t like to farm, and always want to be in the mix of things like team fights, then do play as a support. Unfortunately if you can’t do anything, then just delete the game and play “LoL”, and yes, I went there.
Whether you are Miracle or an amateur, remember no human can master every single hero of the game. Just focus on 20 heroes you find yourself playing comfortably and also work on another 20 to help you survive in high MMR brackets. These 40 heroes (more or less) are enough to get you to the desired MMR goal. Just stick with what you are comfortable with.
This is a much-underrated point because of the negligence of some players. They think they know everything about the game without needing “help” from tips and guides online. This is very costly for your MMR. Since you haven’t mastered or played every hero, you don’t know the mechanics of it; once that hero is against you, it can very much cost you the game to that particular hero.
For example, you can remove Omni Knight’s repel shield, which acts like a Black King Bar, just by a diffusal blade charge or the Saytr creep.

Dota 2 is like an elementary school, and the game of Dota 2 is like a quiz. So before going into the game, equip yourself with knowledge about mechanics, heroes, and items of the game so that you grade well in your quiz.
The “Reaper’s Scythe” of Necrophos cannot kill the enemy in Shallow Grave. On the other hand, Axe’s ultimate “Culling Blade” can kill off that enemy, and therefore, you should keep the Necrophos’ ultimate for other purposes. So, learn the description of the spells and items well through in-game hero descriptions and gamepedia content.
At the same time, gaining the knowledge will ultimately help you learn good combos and counters. For example, if the enemy team has a Phantom Assassin which has high physical damage, you can pick a Dragon Knight along with a Vengeful Spirit to provide plus damage and armor reduction, making the opponent’s pick useless.
