The Final Match is the largest DotA 2 tournament in South America with a $50,000 prize pool.
On July 8 and 9, Peru’s Coliseo Eduardo Dibós will house the first edition of The Final Match 2017, a tournament organized by Vastion Group and EGaming Cup, which will bring together the most important teams from North and South America, Asia, and Europe. This event focuses on large-scale eSports and plans to become a benchmark in South American eSports tournaments.
At the moment, eight teams have been confirmed, of which five were invited: MVP HOT6ix, Team Spirit, Alliance, SG e-sports, and Infamous Gaming. The other three teams are Midas Club Elite, the winner of the South American qualifier, Thunder Awaken, and Elite Wolves (winning teams of tournaments in Peru).
The official sponsors of the event are HyperX, Cifrut, Windows, Nvidia, BTH Hotel, Gaming Factory, and UAP (Alas Peruanas University). This means that more companies and even educational institutions are realizing the potential of eSports in Peru, especially MOBA games like DotA 2.
March through May was filled with failed qualifiers. Alliance played in five qualifiers: The Kiev Major, two for ZOTAC Cup Masters, EPICENTER 2017, and Summit 7. Even the Lootbet Invitational (played with Pablo) went south. ProDota Gaming defeated Alliance 2-0.
In June, Alliance had a chance to redeem themselves by qualifying for the upcoming TI7. However, they failed to do so as they were finally eliminated by Singularity.
It has been hard few months for the team, and the departure of Jonathan “Loda” Berg was the icing on the horrible year for Alliance.
Alliance will be going head-to-head in The Final Match 2017 against Midas Club Elite, a team that received a direct invitation to the qualifying round, but had to refuse it to make a change in the team’s lineup.
The Brazilian side went undefeated for the open qualifiers and won all five matches, giving the viewers some beautiful games that included even theft of Roshan Kill. They lost to SG e-sports and Infamous in the playoffs and were unable to secure a spot for TI7.
Both sides will be looking to get back on track after failing to qualify for TI7. For the matchup, the odds are slightly in favor of Midas because of their terrific run in the qualifiers. As for Alliance, the fortunes are not looking to change anytime soon.
Midas Club Elite 1 – 0 Alliance.
South America had one spot at The International 2017. Infamous Gaming claimed that spot by going undefeated in the South American region. This qualifier was unusual for typical standards. The entire playoff stage — semifinals, winners’ finals, losers’ finals, and the grand finals — made up a frustrating schedule. Above all, the tough regime of Infamous prevailed.
Many viewers were surprised to see Infamous Gaming attending The International. Infamous Gaming struggled to exit South America because SG e-sports was playing goalkeeper for the region. Take a page from IG’s book: don’t think that you can’t score because there’s a goalkeeper.
After beating SG e-sports in the last 2 games of the series with ease, Infamous will be looking to come out guns blazing against the opposition, Elite Wolves. Team Elite Wolves did not appear to play their last match and this process earned a disqualification. Valve has shown that their South American concerns are very rigorous, so it really was not a smart move by the team.
Elite Wolves had a short run in the qualifiers of the TI7 and will need a miracle to defeat currently the strongest team in Peru.
Infamous 1-0 Elite Wolves.
