Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is one of the most popular games in the world. In our game review, we will take a look at everything that you need to know from the creators of Counter-Strike, through the basics of the game, to the competitive scene.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Hidden Path Entertainment and Valve Corporation. It is the fourth game in the main Counter-Strike franchise.
In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, you have two teams of five players. They play as Terrorists or Counter-Terrorists and must complete objectives while attempting to eliminate the enemy team. In the most common scenario, the Terrorists should plant the bomb on a specific spot, while the Counter-Terrorists have the job to stop them. This is the Bomb Scenario, used for competitive games between professional teams. To help them in completing these missions, players can purchase weapons and gear with money earned from various actions such as assisting on kills or completing objectives. Objectives can be, for example, defusing the bomb, planting it, or even knifing the enemy.
Other less commonly used game modes are:
Hostage Scenario: the good guys from the Counter Terrorist side must rescue hostages from the Terrorists, and bring them to an extraction point. On the other side, the Terrorists must prevent the hostages from escaping.
Arms Race: a deathmatch-based mode where each player is rewarded with a new weapon for every 2 kills, or every 1 kill if they kill the enemy leader. The first player to get a kill with the golden knife, the final weapon on the list, wins the game.
Demolition: a round-based mode that removes weapon and equipment purchasing, and instead rewards players who manage at least one kill by giving the next weapon in a predetermined set of weapons.
Deathmatch: a mode consisting of 10-minute matches. Players must gain the highest possible score by earning kills with different weapons or desired weapons.
Currently, there are 18 ranks in CS:GO, the lowest of which is Silver 1 and the highest is Global Elite. The majority of players fall between around Silver 3 and Nova 2, with relatively few players being below Silver 3. There is a sizable population of Nova 3-4s and Master Guardians, but it is nowhere near the number of the lower Novas and high Silvers. Eagle ranks and above are rather rare and take years of practice to attain.
To climb in the ranking system you need to win games, which gains you points. However, the amount gained may be almost nothing, or it may be a great number. Winning against a team that is, on average, higher ranked than you will get you more points depending on the magnitude of the difference. It is the same with the losses. When you lose rounds and matches, you lose ranking points.
With further development of the game, the eSports competitive scene logically becomes bigger and bigger. Along with the normal tournament circuit hosted by third-party organizations, game creator Valve is also hosting Major events. Every Major so far has had a prize pool of $250,000 and attracted more and more attendees, including over ten thousand live in stadium viewers and millions watching on live-stream platforms. Of course, you can find some of those major events in our event preview page.
Since Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the most popular FPS in the world, it’s not a surprise that almost all of the eSports sportsbooks offer markets for it. In addition to the regular betting options, bookmakers also have bettings for the biggest CS:GO events like EPICENTER Moscow, ESL ONE, Intel Extreme Masters, ESWC, etc. To learn more important details about Counter-Strike: Global Offensive betting, check here.
